Weekend closure of Gunn Street in Bridgewater – May 2024

Motorists in Bridgewater are asked to be aware of the upcoming weekend closure of a section of Gunn Street as part of the construction of the New Bridgewater Bridge.

From 6.00pm on Friday, 24 May until 6.00am on Monday, 27 May, Gunn Street will be closed between the Midland Highway and Nielsen Esplanade to allow for construction works including drainage, pavement sealing and line marking in preparation for the Stage 2B North traffic switch.

This work will include significant changes to the road levels, which will make the road unsafe for motorists during these construction activities.

A detour will be in place during the closure, and southbound Midland Highway traffic wanting to access Gunn Street will need to use the East Derwent Highway to access Green Point Road and Eddington Street.

When Gunn Street reopens on Monday, 27 May, access from the Midland Highway will be located further to the north, along with some changes to pedestrian access at that location.

Detour signage will be in place throughout the closure and drivers travelling through the area are asked to follow posted speed limits, be aware of workers, and obey instructions given by traffic controllers.
