Bridgewater today

Bridgewater stands at a vibrant crossroads of history, creativity, and progress. The completion of the new Bridgewater Bridge in June 2025 marked more than just the opening of a major infrastructure project, it signalled the beginning of a new chapter for the community.

From the unforgettable ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by thousands, to the inaugural drive by lifelong locals Barbara Jones and Margaret McMaster, the bridge’s opening was a moment of pride and reflection. It connected generations and celebrated the spirit of Bridgewater’s people.

That same spirit was captured in The Bridge Art Prize 2025, a creative initiative that invited Tasmanians to express what the crossing means to them. With over $36,000 in prizes and strong community collaboration, the Art Prize showcased the depth of local talent and the power of shared stories.

But Bridgewater’s journey doesn’t end here. The bridge may be built, but the momentum continues. New ideas, events, and community projects will take shape, and this page will grow alongside them. Whether it’s art, culture, infrastructure, or innovation—Bridgewater remains a place where things keep happening, and where the future is always in motion.

The Bridge Art Prize 2025 was a community collaboration between Derwent Valley Arts, lead bridge construction contractor McConnell Dowell, and the contractor’s partner businesses that assisted in building current Bridgewater Bridge.
