Artefacts
During the archaeological studies of the site and environment surrounding the Bridgewater Bridge, we uncovered a variety of interesting artefacts that helped us understand the history and heritage of the area.
Of particular interest were items found at locations like the Bridgewater School, Black Snake Inn, Bridgewater Hotel and Black Snake Road.
Bridgewater School
Artefacts uncovered during archaeological monitoring of the historic Bridgewater School.
Black Snake Inn
Artefacts in the form of early bottles fragments, smoking pipe, square shank nails, jacket button, Victorian coin, ceramic and porcelain fragments, and dog bones were found.
Bridgewater Hotel
A timber pipeline was found during excavations, potentially related to the supply of water to the c. 1835 Bridgewater Hotel.
37 Black Snake Rd
A collapsible stretcher of timber rails and canvas was found stored on the bottom chord of the roof trusses of the building known as ‘Pickers Hut’
