Variable speed limit signs – July 2025
Variable Speed Limit signs are now active as part of the New Bridgewater Bridge. The signs are present on the bridge as well as on the approaches to the bridge.
Two permanent variable message signs on either side of the bridge are also now active.
Variable speed limit signs help manage traffic flow and improve safety by adjusting speed limits in response to changing road and traffic conditions.
The signs are designed to respond to things like road works, congestion, weather conditions and incidents. This ensures safer and more reliable travel for all road users.
Drivers are reminded to stay alert and always follow the speed shown on the electronic signs, as these limits are enforceable and can change depending on conditions.
Adjusting to new technology often takes time and we thank the community for their patience.
