Traffic changes in Bridgewater and Granton – December 2024
There will be traffic changes in Bridgewater and Granton from next Tuesday, 10 December 2024 as we continue to build the new Bridgewater Bridge.
These will be the last major traffic changes until traffic moves onto the new bridge in mid-2025.
Traffic changes in Bridgewater
To continue building the northern approach to the new bridge, we will be moving traffic in Bridgewater overnight on Tuesday, 10 December 2024, with the new arrangement in place by 6am the following day.
Traffic going south on the Midland Highway will move onto the Gunn Street off-ramp to access a new road under the northern end of the new bridge.
Traffic can then continue south over the existing bridge or north on Old Main Road.
There will be pedestrian paths and safe access to the relocated southbound temporary bus stop near the northern end of the new bridge.
Before we move traffic, we will be moving concrete barriers in the area at night.
Traffic changes in Granton
To finish building the Black Snake Road Bridge and the southern approach to the new bridge, we will be moving traffic in Granton overnight on Sunday, 15 December 2024 with the new arrangement in place by 6am the following morning.
Traffic using the new section of the Lyell Highway will be separated with southbound traffic through Granton being moved onto a new single lane of the Lyell Highway.
This will pass under the southern end of the new bridge to onto the Brooker Highway towards Hobart.
Traffic going north through Granton will stay on the new section of the Lyell Highway.
At this time, the temporary Brooker Highway roundabout in Granton will change to a U turn.
The U turn will be removed in early 2025 when the new Black Snake Road opens.
Bus stops will stay where they are and there won’t be any impact to pedestrian paths.
To get ready for the changes, we will be moving concrete barriers and doing some asphalting and line marking at night to limit the impact to traffic.
There will be a 40km/h speed limit at times during this work and some minor traffic delays.
The traffic changes are subject to weather conditions.
