New Bridgewater Bridge Project

Reference design engagement report released - Jan 2021

In late 2020, a reference design for the New Bridgewater Bridge to the community for feedback.

The reference design was developed as an example of what may be built to achieve the Project’s design requirements within budget and showed a new two-lane bridge and a second two-lane bridge on the alignment of the existing bridge.

Throughout the month-long consultation, we had:

  • more than 2 500 people visit the Project's interactive map
  • around 200 people comment on the Interactive Map and Ideas Wall
  • 50 people attend one of our drop-in sessions
  • 18 people provide email feedback submissions
  • 11 people send us hard-copy feedback forms
  • four formal responses from Councils and key stakeholder groups.

The reference design, and all feedback received, has now been given to the two tenderers involved in the competitive design process as they further develop their designs.

The reference design is not the final design for the new bridge and is likely to evolve throughout the competitive design process as tenderers look for the most value for money option, while considering community feedback.

An engagement report summarising key issues and concerns raised by the community and stakeholders has been prepared and includes the Department of State Growth's responses to feedback received.
