New Bridgewater Bridge traffic changes in Granton - June 2024

Motorists are asked to be aware of upcoming traffic changes in Granton as work on the New Bridgewater Bridge Project continues.
From mid-June the temporary George Street traffic detour to the Brooker Highway will end and George Street will be reinstated as a residential street.
All Main Road traffic, including heavy vehicles, will be able to access the Brooker Highway by using a section of a new permanent roundabout and Brooker Highway on-ramp.
The traffic switch is taking place following the installation of new noise walls incorporating graphic design artwork located between George Street and the new section of road.
Traffic controllers will be onsite to safely guide motorists onto the new permanent section of road.
Directional signage will be in place and drivers travelling through the area are asked to follow posted speed limits, be aware of workers and obey instructions given by traffic controllers.
The next major changes to traffic on the southern side of the project will be in late 2024 and will include a series of minor traffic switches that will open some sections of the new final road alignment.
Work to build the new Bridgewater Bridge is being delivered in stages to ensure traffic can continue to flow through the project site and the existing bridge can remain open throughout construction.
