New Bridgewater Bridge takes out national construction award – August 2025
Tasmania’s New Bridgewater Bridge Project has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Australian Construction Achievement Award (ACAA), representing one of the most significant accolades in the country’s infrastructure sector.
The award recognises the outstanding planning, innovation, engineering and community collaboration involved in delivering the largest transport infrastructure project in Tasmania’s history.
The $786 million Australian and Tasmanian government funded project opened to traffic on 1 June 2025 and early benefits, including improved travel times and enhanced freight capacity are already being realised.
Project contractor McConnell Dowell, along with the project’s designers, engineers, subcontractors and local suppliers, have delivered a critical piece of infrastructure with a focus on quality, sustainability and community benefit.
Importantly the project created hundreds of jobs and has invested significantly in local content, ensuring Tasmanians share in the benefits long into the future.
To have this work recognised at the highest national level is an achievement that all Tasmanians can be proud of.
The new four-lane structure replaces the ageing lift-span bridge with a modern, safe and reliable crossing.
The Australian Construction Achievement Award recognises not only construction and engineering excellence, but also how these projects are shaping a more progressive and sustainable construction industry.
