Finishing touches on the New Bridgewater Bridge – May 2025

After decades of planning and more than 900 days of construction, the New Bridgewater Bridge is now only days away from opening.

The new bridge will officially open to traffic from Monday, 2 June 2025, marking a significant milestone in the State’s biggest transport infrastructure project.

To celebrate the construction of this landmark of national significance, the local community is invited to take part in a community celebration.

The community is invited to along to walk the bridge from 10am on Sunday, 1 June 2025, before the bridge officially opens to traffic.

This once-in-a-generation project will improve travel times, increase safety and better connect the communities either side of the bridge.

The community celebration will feature food, live entertainment, family-friendly activities and the unique opportunity to walk across Tasmania’s biggest transport infrastructure project.

The New Bridgewater Bridge is the largest transport infrastructure project ever undertaken in Tasmania, supported by significant investment from both the Australian and Tasmanian Governments.
