New Bridgewater Bridge Project

Drive safely through road work sites at night – November 2023

Drivers travelling through the New Bridgewater Bridge project site are reminded to drive to the conditions and follow directions given by traffic controllers, especially at night.

The New Bridgewater Bridge Project has this week launched a new video highlighting the importance of driving safely through worksites, following reports of poor driver behaviour across the project site at night.

Driver behaviour, such as inattention and failing to comply with speed limits in work sites, can lead to serious or fatal injuries to road workers.

Common issues on highways throughout the project site include speeding and dangerous driving in the vicinity of workers, while on local roads, drivers have been observed running through temporary red lights and disobeying directions given by traffic controllers.

On a major project like the New Bridgewater Bridge, it is necessary to do work at night to minimise impacts on daytime peak traffic flows, benefitting motorists and the broader community.

Night works will continue, from time to time, throughout the project, with the number of workers on each night shift varying depending on the activity and location.

If you are driving through the area, always follow roadworks speed limits, watch out for our workers and take extra care.

Major construction on the $786 million project is underway and the project is on track to be completed in 2025.
