New Bridgewater Bridge Project

Out of hours work

To take advantage of favourable conditions, and to minimise disruption to the wider community, the project is continuing with out of hours work (OOHW) throughout 2024.

Standard construction hours are Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm, and Saturdays from 8am to 6pm.

Most high impact work including piling for the permanent bridge, will be carried out during the standard construction hours, with less impacting activities taking place outside of these times, as well as during standard construction hours.

The ongoing low impact works will be carried out from Monday to Sunday between 6pm and 7am.

This low impact out of hours work may include the movement of oversized trucks to our construction sites, which will often travel at night to avoid peak traffic periods.

Traffic management controls and changes may also be implemented outside of standard construction hours to minimise impacts on motorists, cyclists and pedestrians during the day.

There will also be concrete deliveries and pours taking place outside of standard construction hours. This work will ensure the quality and strength of the concrete used in the temporary and permanent bridges.

To take advantage of favourable wind conditions and tides, our work on and near the water will start early and continue into the night. This can include the relocation and use of tugboats, punts and cranes. Lighting towers will be positioned to minimise impact on residential buildings where possible.

Some low impact work will also occur on Sundays.

Mitigation measures will be in place for all out of hours work. For examples, lighting towers will be directed away from residential buildings, and plant and machinery will be switched off when not in use.
