New Bridgewater Bridge Project

New Bridgewater Bridge declared a major project - Dec 2020

The New Bridgewater Bridge Project made history late last year, becoming the first project in the State to be declared a Major Project as part of the Tasmanian Government's new Major Projects legislation.

Given the significance, economic value and complexity of the Project, it was identified by the Tasmanian Government as a suitable project to be assessed using the new legislation.

The Major Projects process will provide a coordinated assessment of environmental, Aboriginal heritage, historic cultural heritage, land use planning, Taswater, threatened species and gas pipeline safety related matters.

The Project was officially declared a Major Project by the Minister for Planning on 23 December 2020 and the proposal will now be assessed by an independent expert panel appointed by the Tasmanian Planning Commission.

A planning permit is expected to be received in early 2022
