Changes at causeway roundabout in Granton

There will be changes to traffic movements at the causeway roundabout and a section of Lyell Highway in Granton from Tuesday, 15 April 2025 as part of the New Bridgewater Bridge Project.

This work will include moving the causeway roundabout a few metres to the north, removing the existing traffic islands and upgrading a section of highway.

During this work only one northbound lane will be open through the causeway.

Construction will be done in two stages and is expected to take up to three months to complete.

Most construction work will take place during standard construction hours, however, some night work will be required for barrier placement and other activities to avoid impacting peak daytime traffic.

There may be some noise impacts to nearby residents including the use of machinery like excavators, rollers, and other heavy and light vehicles.

Lighting towers will be in place during nightworks and will be positioned to reduce any potential impact on local residents.

Bus stops

Two existing bus stops, stop 49 near Rusts Road, and the stop closest to Forest Road, will be closed during this work, and a new single temporary bus stop constructed a few metres south of the Granton roundabout.

People who usually catch buses at the existing stops, will use the new temporary bus stop in front of the historic Granton Watch House. Safe pedestrian access to the bus stop will be in place from the Granton Community Hall carpark.

Some speed limits reductions will apply during this work. Drivers should follow the directions of traffic controllers and obey traffic signs.
