Traffic changes in Bridgewater and Granton on Sunday, 1 June 2025
The Department of State Growth is advising motorists to expect delays and traffic changes in Bridgewater and Granton this Sunday, 1 June, as the community celebrates the opening of the new Bridgewater Bridge.
Thousands of people are expected to walk on the new Bridgewater Bridge and surrounding areas as part of the event, which will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
To support pedestrian safety, the speed limit through the new Bridgewater Bridge project site will be reduced to 40 km/h during the event period. Motorists are advised to avoid the area unless attending the event, and to seek alternative routes where possible.
Drivers travelling through the area should expect delays, be patient, and remain alert to a high number of pedestrians moving between event sites and the bridge.
Traffic controllers will be in place to assist pedestrians to safely access the bridge at 10.30am from the local community and to access points on both the northern and southern sides of the bridge.
For people attending the event, it is likely that there will be delays and queues as event staff try and accommodate the significant interest in the event and move people safely through the site.
The Department thanks the community for their cooperation and understanding as we mark this major milestone in Tasmania’s transport infrastructure.
The new Bridgewater Bridge will open to traffic from Monday, 2 June 2025.
